Description
The most traditional rain gauge
The Hellmann rain gauge is the most traditional and used. It consists of two vessels made of anodized aluminium that are coupled together. The upper vessel, called receiver, features a beveled collection mouth of 200 cm2 that ends in a funnel which design minimizes splashes. The lower vessel, called protector, collects the water from the funnel using a container isolated in the center, thus forming an air chamber all around that helps prevent losses caused by evaporation of the accumulated water.
It includes a glass graduated cylinder to take rainfall readings and a bracket for attaching the instrument to a post, fence, etc.
