Description
Accurate measurement of cloud ceiling
The ceilometer or nephobasimeter is an instrument designed to accurately measure the cloud base height and vertical visibility using the LIDAR principle. Its operation is based on emitting a laser beam towards the sky, which is reflected by the clouds and received by a photodetector located inside the device. By processing the signal strength and the return times of the reflected beam, the ceilometer can detect up to 4 different layers of clouds, providing valuable information about their composition and altitude.
Compact and robust design
The instrument has a compact design and is entirely made of aluminium to ensure high resistance to weathering. The included heaters prevent the accumulation of moisture and ice on the optical windows and allow precise measurements under dew conditions and at low temperatures.
Maximum connectivity
It can be connected to any conventional datalogger to perform the data storage and its subsequent downloading and monitoring on a computer. It features RS-232 and RS-485 serial ports. An Ethernet port is available as an option.
Multitude of applications
Its outstanding versatility makes it ideal for all kind of applications in many fields, the main ones being:
- Meteorology.
- Aerodromes.
- Heliports.
- Civil protection.
