The new sensor sends the road condition data in real time to the Weathercloud Road online platform for remote monitoring and management from the control center, allowing staff to plan maintenance tasks and identify possible risks to road safety early enough.
The A-6 motorway in Madrid has a new M251 sensor for accurate and reliable measurement of different road parameters, including the surface condition (dry, moist, wet, extremely wet and slippery), the coefficient of friction, the surface temperature, the freezing point, the salt concentration, the height of the water or ice layer and the snow height. The use of optical technology for the measurements has allowed a simple installation of the sensor on a lamppost, minimizing the traffic interruption time and avoiding the use of machinery, unlike intrusive-type sensors that need to be embedded in the asphalt.
The sensor is equipped with a 3G communication system for remote data transmission to the Weathercloud Road online platform, which allows monitoring the current conditions in real time, creating evolution graphs and exporting the data to CSV format for local processing.
