The real-time data provided by the new equipment will enable the current runway surface conditions to be known by both the control tower of the airport and the pilots at the required time.
The RCM411 portable monitor is installed easily on any vehicle of the airport maintenance fleet to measure the runway surface condition (dry, moist, wet, slushy, snowy or icy), the coefficient of friction, the accumulated water film height, the asphalt temperature and the dew point.
The data is sent via Bluetooth to the mobile phone or tablet of the operator inside the vehicle for real-time monitoring during the inspection of the runway and service roads. Additionally, the data is also sent via Wi-Fi or 3G to an online platform for remote monitoring from the control center of the airport.
The coefficient of friction and accumulated water film height are especially important for pilots when landing in adverse weather conditions. Thanks to the new equipment, both parameters are measured quickly and accurately so that the information can be provided to the control tower and the pilots at the required time.
