Students, teachers and neighbors can now check the current weather conditions in real time and the local weather forecast for the present day and the next 6 days through the Weathercloud online platform.
Darrera’s specific weather stations for schools are equipped with a cup anemometer, wind vane, temperature and humidity sensor, tipping bucket rain gauge, barometer and solar and UV radiation sensors. In addition, the stations can optionally include an air quality sensor for measuring the concentration of PM1, PM2.5 and PM10 particulate matter. The sensor suite can be installed on a wall or on a tripod for easy access to the instruments by students. The entire system is powered by solar energy for fully autonomous operation.
The data is sent over 4G to the Weathercloud online platform for real-time monitoring from a computer, tablet or smartphone. Weathercloud offers a data dashboard that can be easily integrated into the school’s website, as well as displayed locally on a monitor or TV screen. Students and teachers can make use of the platform to generate daily, monthly and annual weather reports, configure alerts for adverse weather conditions, create custom plots and even export the data for use in other applications. The platform also allows to post the weather data automatically on the school’s Twitter account.
