The new sensors will enable accurate measurements of the tidal variations and wave profiles in the port waters with the aim of increasing the safety of vessels and to avoid unnecessary closures.
Built in 2010, the Son Blanc port is located in the bay of Ciutadella, an area known for its strong winds from the west. The low-rise double dock of the port was specially designed to mitigate the visual impact in a zone of great environmental and scenic value, but makes it necessary to extreme caution during the frequent wind storms.
The ocean-meteorological solution implemented by Darrera will provide port staff with objective data that will enable to close the port to shipping in the event of danger. The new high-performance wave and tide sensors have been installed on the east and west docks, from where they send the data in real time to a cloud platform that features a customized operational warning system developed by Darrera.
