The acquisition of the instruments is part of the Project for Risk Management and Early Warning, driven by the United Nations World Food Programme.
The project aims to strengthen the ability to anticipate and warn of potential natural hazards in Central American countries. All available meteorological information is integrated into the Central American Early Warning System (SATCA), an online platform that facilitates rapid and efficient access by the institutions responsible for prevention, preparedness, planning and humanitarian response, including governments, NGOs and agencies affiliated with the United Nations.
